Safety Town is a program in which youngsters eligible for kindergarten in September are familiarized with various concepts of safety. It is conducted during the month of July at John F. Kennedy School, 1310 Ratzer Road.
The program allows each youngster to become sensitive to the need for safety in the home, the community, school and although not mandatory, it serves as an excellent experience for those who will be entering kindergarten in September.
Two teachers, assisted by teenage volunteer aides, instruct each student on an individual basis over a two week period. Each day students have an opportunity to travel through a model town which includes buildings, streets, and traffic signals, along the way they participate in fun activities related to safety. Prior to graduation, each student will meet a policeman, visit a firehouse, and travel on a school bus.

Registration packets describing specific schedules and activities for this year's program will be mailed home in early April. The program is scheduled for July 5 - July 15 and July 18 - July 29. Students may attend the 9:00 A.M. or 11:00 A.M. sessions daily for two weeks.
In order to receive a registration packet in April, complete the Safety Town Form in the document repository and return it to the school with the child's kindergarten registration or directly to us at the address listed above.
Safety Town is open to all Wayne resident youngsters.
